Tay Son - Binh Dinh Festival 2008: a chance for promote culture

For the first time, Binh Dinh central province will host big cultural festival named Tay Son – Binh Dinh with theme “Converging and Development”. This is a good chance to promote special culture of the land of martial arts.

The event to mark the 235th anniversary (1773-2008) of the Tay Son insurgent army’s occupation of Quy nhon the citadel – which began the country’s unification process under the Tay Son dynasty will take place on August 1-3.

The highlight of the festival will be incense and flowers offering to the Tay Son Tam Kiet shrine, the opening artistic variety programme on August 1, the 2nd international celebration of the century – long struggle for self-defence from August 1-3, the final Dao Tan classical drama competition on August 2, the gala night of flower garlands and coloured lanterns on August 2 and the beauty contest final.

The festival also includes art performances coming from Hanoi Ho chi minh city Tien Giang and Gia Lai provinces and two international troupes from the Republic of Korea and Laos.

Van Trong Hung, Director of Binh Dinh Department of Culture and Information, vice head of organising committee, confirmed at the conference that although the event is a provincial festival, the content and activities are of national magnitude.

Performances will have the participation of around 2,500 people who are students but not professional artists in the province. Since July 5, rehearsals have begun for people who will join the event. The overall rehearsal will be organsied on July 28.

Preparation is also made in infrastructure. Cultural Park, Monument, and provincial cultural centre have been upgraded.

Another activity, craft village and gastronomy festival will also be organised from July 27 to the end of the Tay Son – Binh Dinh Festival.  Many trade villages of An Nhon, Hoai Nhon and Phu Cat are producing products for the event.

Although the festival will take place for only three days, it is a good chance for the province to introduce the province’s potentials of economics, culture and tourism to attract more investors at home and abroad to the province. The festival is hoped to become a brand name festival of culture and tourism of Binh Dinh.
